Ashish Nehra speculated to hang his boots soon

The old warhorse of Indian cricket, T20 specialist fast bowler Ashish Nehra, is speculated announce his retirement from international cricket soon. Nehra, who has played under a number of captains, is mulling over playing his last match under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

From Mohammad Azharuddin to Sourav Ganguly; Rahul Dravid to MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, and Virat Kohli, the Delhi bloke is one of the few players to have played under that many captains. Also, he is amongst the only few left in International cricket having made their debut in the 90s.

But if reports are to be believed, Kohli would be the captain who shall bid farewell to left-arm pacer who is the epitome of longevity. According to reports from Bangalore Mirror, the T20I tie between India and New Zealand might be Nehra’s last donning the Indian blues. The series is scheduled in the early part of November.

The inclusion of Nehra in the T20I squad has raised a few eyebrows already and if the veteran decides to quit international cricket, the move would definitely surprise many. Although looking at the current strength of the Indian squad in the bowling department, it might be difficult for Ashish Nehra to make the cut into the Indian side.

Indian bowling lineup boasts two of the best death bowlers in the world presently by the names of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. The quality and pedigree in the likes of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav are currently waiting on the benches to complete the four-pronged bowling spear.

Also, the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina have found it difficult for themselves to be a part of the future scheme for the ICC World Cup 2019, owing to the fitness standards displayed by the younger bunch of players in the squad.

That said, ‘Nehraji’ would be always remembered along with greats such as Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath. He has been a part of two successful World Cup squads of 2011 and 2003. The six-for against England at Centurion is still fresh on the minds of many.
