Veteran fast bowler Ashish Nehra, who was ruled out of the IPL due to an injury a week ago, will be undergoing knee surgery. The left arm speedster is consulting orthopaedic specialist Dr. Andrew Williams.

BCCI, on its official Twitter handle, tweeted –

Nehra was ruled out of ongoing the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he sustained a hamstring tendon injury on May 15 during the match against Kings XI Punjab.

The BCCI informed in a press release, “BCCI medical team confirms that India medium pacer, Ashish Nehra, injured his right knee during the Indian Premier League 2016. Assessment and investigation by BCCI medical staff revealed Nehra sustained a high-grade tendon injury and was recommended to consult Dr. Andrew Williams, an orthopaedic specialist in London. Post consultation, Dr. Williams has advised surgery on his right knee, which will take place shortly.”

This injury is not a good sign for Nehra, who was enjoying a new lease of life career wise, as it puts serious a question mark on his future in competitive cricket. The left arm pacer recently made a comeback to the national team at the ripe age of 37. There is very few limited overs match in the next one and half years. Chances were there for him of getting selected for the upcoming Zimbabwe and West indies tour.

Nehra spearheaded his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack in 8 matches this season, taking 9 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7.65. His best bowling figures were 3 for 15 which came against Mumbai Indians.

His team, however, has made it to the IPL 2016 playoffs with a 3rd-place finish at the end of the league stage and will take on two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator on Wednesday (May 25).
