'Ashish Nehra was the nicest human being off the field'- Shoaib Akhtar

While the political relationship between India and Pakistan has never been promising because of obvious reasons, the cricketers from both countries have always tried to maintain a good relationship. And former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has given yet another example of the camaraderie between India and Pakistan cricketers.

The legendary pacer recently posted a video on his popular YouTube channel in which he was seen chatting with some of his compatriots. It was a question and answer session as Akhtar was bombarded with ‘unexpected questions’. One of the persons asked Shoaib Akhtar to name the best human being off the field.

And in reply, Shoaib Akhtar came up with the name of former India fast-bowler Ashish Nehra. Akhtar said that while Nehra was a good bowler, he was a very good human being. The Pakistan legend went on heap praise on Nehra, saying that the left-arm pacer was always ready to help.

“Ashish Nehra,” said Akhtar while replying to the question before adding: “A good bowler but a very good person. He was the best human being because he was always ready to help others.”

Nehra represented India for nearly two decades before retiring from all forms of game in 2018. He made his India debut in 1999 and played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs and 26 T20 Internationals. In a career that was marred by a number of injuries, Nehra picked 44 Test, 157 ODI and 34 T20 wickets. He was also a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad.

Akhtar, meanwhile, further revealed that contrary to the popular perception, Mohammad Yousuf was the most generous Pakistani player. Akhtar also heaped praise on BCCI for naming Sourav Ganguly as the board president and urged Pakistan Cricket Board to do the same and appoint a cricketer to head the cricket board.

Shoaib Akhtar has been in the news all over India for his recent comments on his former teammate Danish Kaneria. The former pacer revealed that some of his teammates discriminated against Kaneria on the basis of his religion. Unsurprisingly, he faced backlash from his fellow Pakistanis but the legendary pacer stood by his statement.
