Ashwin and Jadeja can give nightmares to Usman Khawaja: Sourav Ganguly
"They are failing as a unit."
Australia devoid of two of their stalwarts- David Warner and Steve Smith– in the ongoing four-match Test series against India, which the hosts are trailing 1-2. Hence, their batting has looked fragile and the Indian bowlers have been able to get a stranglehold on them. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly recently mentioned that the Aussies haven’t been able to show enough consistency for quite some time.
The 46-year-old also said that the likes of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja can dismiss left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja in his dreams. Khawaja, has thus, far scored 167 runs at an average of 27.83. Ashwin dismissed him twice at Adelaide Oval while left-arm spinner Jadeja accounted for his wicket once in the third Test, which India won by 137 runs, at the renowned Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
“The current batting lineup of Australia sans David Warner and Steven Smith is still born and brought up in the country and hence is in no ways weak. But it’s ironic that they are failing as a unit for quite some time now.
Usman Khawaja has been found out by the Indian attack to the extent that even if he is asleep, Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja can dismiss him in his dreams,” Ganguly was quoted as saying in India TV.
Bumrah is an exceptional talent
Ganguly also opined on Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up his maiden six-wicket haul at the MCG and walked away with the Player of the Match. He feels that Bumrah, being a youngster, doesn’t need adequate rest and should be included for the matches against New Zealand. Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker of the four-match series with 20 wickets.
“There is no doubt that he is an exceptional talent. But I saw news of him being rested keeping in mind the World Cup. I don’t think that should be followed in its entirety. He is not a Kapil Dev who played 125 Tests. He is young and raring to go.
So we should definitely play him against New Zealand at least as they are a strong side, unlike the current hosts. And I’m not sure that Mumbai Indians would be willing to rest him at the marquee tournament,” the current President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), mentioned.
