India’s long-serving captain and star player Dhoni was the Indian skipper in the Asia Cup 2016. He received a lot of plaudits for his role as a captain in the tournament, especially during the game against Pakistan, with his bowling changes and displaying an aggressive brand of cricket in the first innings.

During India’s chase, Dhoni scored an unbeaten 7 runs off three balls and also scored the winning runs. He also scored the winning runs against Bangladesh in the final. He later led the team to the semifinal of the T20 World Cup in 2016, which was his last ICC tournament as the Indian captain.

Dhoni stepped from the captaincy in limited overs prior to the home series against England in 2017. In the 2019 World Cup, Dhoni played his last game for India and was tragically run out in the semifinal against New Zealand. He announced his international retirement in August 2020 and was last in action in the IPL 2022 with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
