Team India has been playing like a champion team in the ongoing Asia Cup. After struggling against Hong Kong, they have stunned Pakistan and Bangladesh in one-sided encounters and are looking invincible now. The Super Four tussle against Bangladesh was won in the first few overs itself as their top-order was blown away within first 15 overs. Amongst them, Shakib Al Hasan’s wicket was special as he was trapped by some smart work by the former captain MS Dhoni.
Ravindra Jadeja was introduced into the attack in the tenth over and Shakib welcomed him with a couple of boundaries through the vacant square-leg area. However, soon after the shot, MS Dhoni prompted Rohit Sharma, the actual captain, to move Shikhar Dhawan to square-leg who was standing at the slip. Moreover, he also advised Jaddu to bowl the next delivery a bit slower and at a similar length to induce the same shot off the batsman.
Now one would’ve thought that given Shakib’s experience, he won’t play any fancied shot after eking out 11 runs off the over. But the left-hander went for the shot and played it in the air only for Dhawan to gobble up an easy catch. He was rapped by some brilliant mind game by Dhoni and Sharma together.
Cheeky banter
Rohit Sharma has been the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and their official Twitter handle praised him for the brilliant captaincy in order to send back Shakib who was looking dangerous. “GONE! Smart captaincy from Rohit Sharma who moves Dhawan to square leg citing Shakib’s intentions. Jadeja sticks to his plan and forces Shakib to sweep, who holes out to Dhawan. Brilliant from India!” the tweet read.
However, it was Dhoni who suggested Rohit to change the field and the official Twitter handle of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t forget to let their IPL rivals know about the same. “Reading batsman’s brain from behind the stumps! Thala Mastermind! #WhistlePodu #INDvBAN,” their tweet read as they explained the scenario in pictures smartly.
Here’s the thread:
