Pakistan didn’t have the most auspicious outing in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Men in Green started as one of the firm favourites to win the championship and stormed to a comprehensive victory in their first match against Hong Kong. However, they got a reality check in their next match against arch-rivals India at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sarfraz Ahmed’s men lost by eight wickets courtesy of some immaculate bowling from the Indians coupled with Rohit Sharma’s breezy half-century, opening the batting. In their first Super 4 match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, Shoaib Malik helped Pakistan snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Their final match in the round against Bangladesh was a do-or-die encounter.

After losing the toss, Pakistan got the Tigers by the scruff of their necks with three early wickets owing to some fiery bowling from Junaid Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi. However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun stood their ground and added some priceless runs on the board. In the end, Bangladesh could only manage 239 runs.
Pakistan, like their opponents, started their run chase by losing three early wickets. Shoaib Malik and Imam-ul-Haq tried their hearts out, but the target turned out to be a bridge too far for Sarfraz’s men and they lost by 37 runs. To add insult to injury, the Green Army also bowed out of the event. In the meantime, Hemang Badani, the former Indian cricketer, took a direct at Pakistan in a couple of tweets. ‘
In one of the tweets, he wrote that their defeat against Mashrafe Mortaza’s men helped them evade their third defeat against India in this Asia Cup. He took to Twitter and wrote, “#pakistan team saves itself from being embarassed by India the third time in this tournament.#PAKvIND #BANvPAK #savingface #IndianCricket,”
