Yesterday, India, captained by Rohit Sharma, edged Bangladesh in a nail-biting final of the 2018 Asia Cup to win the championship for the seventh time. The match went down to the last delivery and the Men in Blue won by three wickets to deny the Tigers their maiden multi-nation championship. The victory was also a chance for fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah to answer his trolls.
Last year, the final of the Champions Trophy in England didn’t turn out to be a memorable one for the 24-year-old speedster. He dismissed Pakistani opening batsman Fakhar Zaman off a no-ball after which the batsman went on to notch his maiden ODI century. Moreover, the ton also ensured that the Men in Green comprehensively win the match by a mammoth 180-run margin.
Bumrah answers his trolls
Subsequently, he was a recipient of severe criticism. To add insult to his injury, the Jaipur police released an advertisement showing Bumrah’s no-ball. They captioned the picture and wrote, “Don’t cross the line, you know it can be costly”. It made the Ahmedabad-born agitated and he lashed out at them, mentioning that he wouldn’t have made fun of their mistakes.
In the ongoing Asia Cup, he performed exceptionally and answered his critics. The seamer picked up eight wickets in four matches with best figures of 3/37. Moreover, he conceded runs at an economy of 3.97. Even in the final against Mashrafe Mortaza’s men, he ended with figures of 8.3-0-39-1. Albeit he could only get the wicket of Rubel Hossain with a deadly Yorker, he was on the money.
Bumrah didn’t allow the batters to wield their bat in the death overs to inject impetus into the innings. In the meantime, he took to Twitter and wrote, “Some people love to use their creativity on the sign boards. Hope this one fits there as well!! #Champions #AsiaCup2018 #lionalwaysroars,”
