India and Afghanistan certainly played the game of the Asia Cup 2018 in Dubai and it was fitting that eventually, there was no winner. The opener KL Rahul came into the XI for this game where the Indian side made a plethora of changes and gave a chance to everyone who was in the squad. As it turned out, it wasn’t the most pleasing outcome for the Men in Blue.
There were a lot of instances which determined the result and poor umpiring is certainly one of them. The umpires can’t be blamed completely as DRS is something which is an aid for the players in these times, but a poor judgment from KL Rahul cost them the only available review way too early in the chase.
After that, MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik were adjudged LBW and replays suggested that the ball was missing the stumps in both cases. One of the reporters asked him if the management has a clarity as to who has a bigger say in taking the batting reviews and indirectly highlighted the point if the top order has an edge in this prospect.
“It is very tricky when you have just one review. Obviously, looking back at it I felt I shouldn’t have taken it. But at that time in the middle, I felt the impact was outside off and I wanted to take that chance. Sometimes we can sit here and review the review that we took and say we could’ve left it for someone else,” said Rahul, who clearly regretted his decision.
We learn with these mistakes
Rahul reckons its important to just forget about these mistakes and learn from it. He said in the press conference after the match that he will try and assess what happened in that situation to avoid repeating such blunders in the time to come.
“We learn with it, the shot I played and the review I took, I’ll have to go back and assess it. By doing so I can do better given the situation repeats itself,” Rahul added.
