India, playing the Asia Cup 2018 in UAE, will be plying their trade for the first time since 2006 in this part of the world and Dubai hosting them for the first time ever. India, under their stand-in captain Rohit Sharma, will take on Hong Kong a day before the big game against Pakistan.

Hong Kong has lost all the five matches they played in the Asia Cup thus far including their first game of this edition against Pakistan. The Indian playing eleven in this game could witness quite a few changes to the one played in the ODI series in England.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of India’s first game in the 2018 Asia Cup:

1 – India and Hong Kong faced off only once in an ODI game thus far- in the 2008 Asia Cup. India posted 374/4 in their 50 overs while batting first with help of MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 109 off 96 balls and Suresh Raina’s 68-ball 101. Hong Kong were bundled out for only 118 in their reply. The current captain Rohit Sharma got runout on 11 in that game.


1 – MS Dhoni has featured in 13 matches across three different editions of the Asia Cup thus far. He appeared in all those games as captain of India. The 2018 edition will be Dhoni’s first as a player. He led India in all the four matches during the Asia Cup T20 in 2016.


8.71 – KL Rahul’s batting average in the ODI format since the start of 2017. Rahul scored only 61 runs in his previous eight innings with the best score of 17. In his debut ODI series in Zimbabwe in 2016, Rahul scored 196 runs where his scores read 100*, 33, 63*.


48 – Number of wickets Kuldeep Yadav has taken in the 23 ODI matches he played thus far. If the left-arm wrist spinner takes two more wickets in his next ODI game, he will be the 2nd fastest Indian to 50 ODI wickets after Ajit Agarkar (23). Kuldeep’s partner in crime, Yuzvendra Chahal also needs five wickets for 50 wickets in the ODI format.


50.24 – Ambati Rayudu has a batting average of 50.24 in his ODI career of 34 games in which he scored 1055 runs. He is one of the three Indian players and 11 players in overall to have an average of 50 and more (Min: 1000 runs). Rayudu has not played an ODI game since the completion of the 2016 tour of Zimbabwe.


95.17 – MS Dhoni has a batting average of 95.17 in the Asia Cup. The Indian keeper-batsman scored 571 runs in 12 innings in this tournament with an unbeaten 109 and three fifties. His average is the best in the Asia Cup among the players with 500+ runs. The next best batting average is 66.25 of Navjot Singh Sidhu.
