Asia Cup 2018: Rahul Dravid thinks it is not just Pakistan India need to be wary of
"We are playing very good white ball cricket."
India recently won both their matches in the group stage of the ongoing Asia Cup and topped Group A. After getting an almighty scare from Hong Kong, Rohit Sharma and Co looked clinical against Pakistan and brushed them aside by eight wickets at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The Men in Blue were all over their opponents and demolished them with 21 overs to spare.
The arch-rivals are again scheduled to lock horns on September 23 at the same venue. Moreover, the teams may also meet in the final if they finish as the top two teams in the Super 4. In the meantime, Rahul Dravid, the former Indian cricketer, reckons that India apart from Sarfraz Ahmed’s men should also put their focus on Afghanistan, who won both their group matches.
“Afghanistan is doing well, I don’t know why we are only focusing on Pakistan. Bangladesh too are doing well. Afghanistan also are a force to reckon with. If I was in the team I would not just be focusing on Pakistan. We are playing very good white ball cricket but we have to be careful of other teams too,” Dravid was quoted as saying in India today.
Afghanistan’s dream run
Afghanistan started their campaign with a stupendous 91-run win against Sri Lanka. A half-century from Rahmat Shah lifted them to a score of 249 after which the bowlers got Angelo Mathews and Co on the mat. The Lankans were eventually bowled out for 158 runs with 52 balls remaining in the innings. The Afghans went from strength to strength against Bangladesh in the second match.
Rashid Khan and Hashmatullah Shahidi racked up half-centuries each to help Afghanistan put 255 runs on the board after which the tweakers got a stranglehold on Bangladesh and beat them by 136 runs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. India and Afghanistan are scheduled to lock horns on Tuesday, September 25 in Dubai.
