There is a stark difference in Shikhar Dhawan who plays white ball cricket and the one who bats in Test cricket. The left-handed batsman was struggling in England not so long ago and is under the threat of losing his place in the side in whites. But his performance and confidence in the limited-overs format didn’t dip. Not many lauded his efforts after a century against Hong Kong but Gabbar has definitely stormed back into form and an authoritative ton against Pakistan proved it.
He, along with Rohit Sharma, stitched an opening partnership of 210 runs in the run-chase. It was Dhawan who started tonking the ball while his partner took his time to get going. The flamboyant batsman played some delightful strokes which included a cover drive, a straight drive, back-foot punches to leave the fans awestruck. He brought up his second century of the tournament, his 15th in the ODIs, in style and it looked like India will win it with 10 wickets in hand.
But Dhawan was in a hurry compared to Rohit and was run-out in attempting a non-existing single. However, he had scored 114 runs off 100 deliveries until then and put his team in the winning position.
Well played bhai
Shikhar Dhawan undoubtedly delighted after a thumping victory over the arch-rivals and posted a picture of himself raising the bat to the crowd after reaching his century on Monday. He captioned it with a message thanking the god which read, “itna diya Sarkar ney mujhko utni meri aukaat nahi Yeh toh karm hain unka warna mujh mein toh aisi koi baat nahi.”
His IPL teammate Rashid Khan, whose team lost to Bangladesh just by three runs on the same day, was happy for Dhawan and lauded him for his efforts. Afghanistan have been knocked out of the competition but Rashid will get a chance to bowl at Dhawan on Wednesday when India will meet them in a dead rubber.
Here’s Dhawan’s post and Rashid’s comment:
