The Asia Cup 2022 will be played from August 27 to September 11 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Six teams will be competing in the tournament with five full-time sides and one associate side. India are the defending champions having won the last two editions in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
Meanwhile, there are a few records that might be broken in the upcoming edition of the continental tournament. While the batting and bowling records are in jeopardy to a certain extent, the all-rounder record would still remain intact despite a few players having scored 300+ runs and having registered more than 15 scalps to their names in Asia Cups.

3 Asia Cup records that might get broken this year
Sanath Jayasuriya’s record as the highest-run getter in Asia Cup history
Sanath Jayasuriya is the all-time leading run-scorer in Asia Cup history having amassed 1220 runs from 25 matches between 1990 to 2008 including three half-centuries and six centuries at a strike rate of 102.52. While the Sri Lankan legend’s record has been intact since the 2008 edition in Pakistan, it might be broken this time around.
The candidates for breaking this record include India’s batting megastars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While Rohit amassed 883 runs between the 2008 to 2018 editions of the Asia Cup, Kohli managed to score 766 between 2010 to 2016. He was rested for the 2018 edition.
Thus, if either or both of them rediscover their mojo on the 22 yards and go on to have an outstanding tournament, Sanath Jayasuriya could well be dethroned in this elite list.
