India will kick off their 2022 Asia Cup campaign with a clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. Both teams are in good form lately, and fans will be in for a treat for a mouth-watering clash at Dubai international cricket stadium. Pakistan ended their World Cup curse against India by winning the last meeting by 10 wickets in the 2021 World Cup in UAE. The Indian team will be eager for quick revenge as both the teams are placed in Group A.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad on the 8th of June, with star batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul returning to the squad. Both the players missed the eight-match white-ball West Indies tour and significantly boost the Indian top-order for the 2022 Asia Cup. Kohli has played only five of India’s last 22 international matches since the conclusion of Indian Premier League 2022 in May.
He is also not part of India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe and will be making his return against Pakistan. KL Rahul is included in the Zimbabwe tour, which will help him gain match fitness before the mega tournament.
In the bowling department, fans were disappointed to learn about ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s surprise injury news which ruled him out of the entire tournament. The in-form Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be leading the pace attack with Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan. Hardik Pandya will be India’s fourth pace option after his average outing on the West Indies tour.
Indian management declared four specialist spin options in form of Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravi Bishnoi. With Deepak Hooda also included, the spin department is looking overcrowded compared to India’s pace attack. Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik will be donning the wicketkeeping gloves and are likely to be part of the preferred eleven as well.
