The associate nation, UAE featuring in the ongoing Asia Cup T20 put on a decent show in their first game against Sri Lanka as they lost by a mere margin of 14 runs.
After winning the toss, UAE invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The champions of World T20 started off well scoring 68 runs in first 9 overs without any loss. But what followed suggested we might be in for a major upset early on in the tournament. Captain Amjad Javed picked 3 wickets in his last 3 overs and his teammates followed him by picking up wickets regularly as Sri Lanka settled with just 129/8.
It was the Sri Lankan captain this time who led from the front with the ball. Malinga struck twice in the first over including a wicket on the very first ball. The associate nation never looked in the game as they tried playing way too many shots. Swapnil Patil top scored with 37, who was the only UAE batsman to score something substantial. 45 – Number of matches taken by Nuwan Kulasekara to complete 50 wickets in T20Is. He is the 2nd slowest to the mark after Nathan McCullum, who took 53 matches to complete 50 T20I wickets.
