Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to commemorate the 100th anniversary of their founding father-Sheikh Mujibur Rahman- by staging two Asia XI vs World XI Twenty20 International fixtures.

The schedule of the aforementioned matches was revealed on Saturday and it has now been confirmed that the two matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on March 18 and 21. Earlier it was decided that the third game of the series will be played at the newly-built Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Motera Stadium but the last-minute delay in its completion ensured that the plan was scrapped.

The newly-built stadium is being widely hailed as the biggest cricket stadium in the world with a capacity to hold 1.10 Lakh people at the same time. The old 53-000-seater Motera stadium was demolished back in 2014 as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project. The stadium is scheduled to be inaugurated by the president of the United States of America Donald Trump, who is slated to be on a two-day visit to India later this month.

Five Indian players to feature in Asia XI vs World XI

Coming back to the Asia XI vs World XI matches in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, in a bid to make it a memorable event, requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI] to send some of India’s marquee players for the two matches.

The BCCI then declared that it will be sending a total of five players to feature in the historic occasion. “Our board has decided to send five players. It has been left to the BCCI president (Sourav Ganguly) to decide which five players would go to Bangladesh,” Jayesh George told bdcrictime.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chaudhary had said that the board has requested their other Asian neighbours to send their players. “These two T-20 matches will be played between March 18 to 22. We have requested all Asian countries to send few players and depending upon their players’ availability, the teams would participate. The Rest of the World XI will be chosen by the BCB.” he had said.

That said, who will be those five players will be interesting to see as the first match on March 18 clashes with India’s final ODI against South Africa.
