Michael Vaughan, the former England skipper, lauded the India Women’s team for their resilient show in the ODI series against the English women’s team. On Wednesday, June 30, Mithali Raj and Co lost to the hosts by five wickets after putting up 221 on the board. However, the Women in Blue fought hard and made sure that the hosts had to work hard for the victory.
Even as Vaughan heaped praise on Raj’s women, the veteran also took a sly dig at the India men’s team. Recently, Virat Kohli and Co lost the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand by eight wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Vaughan took to Twitter and wrote, “The Indian women’s team are putting in an excellent display today … Good to see at least 1 Indian cricket team can play in English conditions.”

With the defeat, India women also conceded an unassailable 2-0 lead to their opponents. After the match, Harmanpreet Kaur, the national T20I skipper, said that India couldn’t get enough runs on the board.
“It wasn’t a winning total. In ODIs, you need to get at least 250 to win games. We know our bowlers are good and they kept us in the game. But yes, it was a below-par total,” Kaur was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We did believe we had a chance but credit goes to their batters. They batted really well. We just want to go with the best XI. Every game is important for us,” she added.
Kaur led Team India in the absence of Raj, who didn’t take the field in the second innings due to neck pain. Raj scored 59 off 92 balls with six fours before she was run out at the striker’s end.
For England, Kate Cross was the standout performer as he picked up a five-wicket haul and became the Player of the Match. Sophia Dunkley also chipped in with an unbeaten 81-ball 73 with five fours and one six.
The third and final ODI will be played on Saturday, July 3 at the New Road in Worcester.
