India started the 3-match T20I series against Australia with a close 11-run win at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. KL Rahul’s 40-ball 51 helped India made a solid start after losing the toss. From 86/2 in 11 overs, India lost four wickets for 28 runs in five overs. However, Ravindra Jadeja got India to 161/7 with an unbeaten 23-ball 44 but suffered a concussion in this process. Yuzvendra Chahal, who came in as a concussion substitute claimed three wickets as Australia collapsed after scoring 53/0 in the powerplay. Natarajan, on debut, also took three wickets as the Aussies were restricted to only 150/7.

India’s unbeaten streaks in T20Is:

8India now has won each of their last eight matches in the T20I format including two of them in Super Over. This is now the longest winning streak for India in T20I cricket surpassing the seven successive outright wins in 2012-2014, in 2016 and in 2018.

10 – India has not lost any of their last ten matches in the T20I format out of which they won nine including two Super Over wins while another game ended without a result. This is now India’s longest in T20I cricket without a defeat.


Match award for the substitute:

1Yuzvendra Chahal became the first concussion substitute in International cricket to win a player of the match award. Overall, Chahal is the 5th substitute to win a player of the match in International cricket with the previous four being Super Subs in ODI cricket [Shane Bond, James Anderson, Jeetan Patel and Malinga Bandara].


Australia fails to chase 162:

162 – The target of 162 is the lowest which Australia failed to chase in a completed T20I game at home. Australia has lost only six T20I games while chasing at home out of which three are against India only.


Jadeja’s blitz:

44*Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 44 is now the highest T20I score for India by any player batting at No.7 or lower. The previous highest was 38 by MS Dhoni in the 2012 Wankhede T20I against England.


Sundar’s economical spell:

15 – Washington Sundar conceded only 16 runs in his four overs; the fewest conceded by any player in his four overs during a T20I against Australia in Australia. As many as six players before Sundar gave away only 19 runs in their four overs during a T20I against Australia in Australia.


Natarajan makes a decent start to his T20I career:

3/30Thangarasu Natarajan became the 7th player to pick three or more wickets on T20I debut for India in Men’s cricket. Natarajan’s maiden wicket in the format was Glenn Maxwell who was incidentally the captain of KXIP during his IPL debut in 2017.

  


All-round performance from Moises:

3 – Moises Henriques is only the 3rd player to score 30+ runs and pick 3+ wickets in the same T20I for Australia in Men’s cricket. Shane Watson has achieved this double on three occasions while Glenn Maxwell on one instance.


Rahul @ 1000 runs:

1044KL Rahul completed 1000 runs in Twenty20 format in 2020 when he went past his individual score of 7. Rahul scored 1044 runs in T20s this year across 22 innings with help of nine fifties and a hundred. Babar Azam (1242) is the only player to complete 1000 runs in T20 cricket this year before Rahul.

3 – KL Rahul now has three fifties in the T20I while playing as a wicketkeeper; the most number of fifties for an Indian keeper in T20Is surpassing MS Dhoni’s two half-centuries.


A slow knock from D’Arcy:

89.47 – Batting strike rate of D’Arcy Short during his 38-ball 34 during the 1st AUS vs IND T20I. This is the lowest strike rate during an innings of 30+ runs for Australia in Men’s T20Is. The previous slowest was Brad Haddin’s 46-ball 42 which came at a strike rate of 91.30 during the 2010 WT20 against West Indies.


Shami’s embarrassing feat:

4 – Mohammed Shami now has conceded 45 or more runs in a T20I on as many as four instances. These are the most number of occasions where an Indian bowler conceded 45+ runs in T20I cricket surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal (3), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3) and Kuldeep Yadav (3).
