Australia will be locking horns with Zimbabwe in the first One Day International at the Tony Ireland Stadium, Townsville on Sunday, August 28. Both teams will be heading into this series having lost their respective previous bilateral ODI series. The Aussies suffered a 2-3 loss in Sri Lanka and prior to that lost 1-2 to Pakistan away from home. They would now be hoping to give their best against a spirited Zimbabwean team who have been giving a tough fight to their opponents in the home series.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be heading down under after a 0-3 drubbing against a second-string Indian side earlier this week. Even though they suffered a 10-wicket loss in the first game, the Zimbabweans made the Men in Blue work hard for their next couple of wins, especially the third match where they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory despite a whirlwind century from star all-rounder Sikandar Raza.

Nonetheless, it will not be easy at all for Zimbabwe as this is their first visit to Australia after a long gap of over 18 years. The Zimbabweans had last toured down under during the 2003-04 season for a Test series that was followed by a tri-series that involved India.

Pitch and conditions

The Australian wickets always have some extra bounce and carry which is very helpful for the bowlers. The batters on the other hand need to survive the new ball and can go on to play a long innings once they are well set at the crease. The fast bowlers would be expected to make merry given the nature of the wicket and the captain winning the toss would be looking to bowl first.
