Ellyse Perry and her rise in the sports she is involved in has been a rather well-documented one. In recent times, she has been one of the most integral parts of the Australia Women’s side in recent times. In a recent interview, Perry was asked about her relationship with the sport and how she developed a love for the sport. She went on to add that her father began teaching her how to play and she continued as she watched the Australian sides play growing up.
“I think it started for me just like most kids in Australia, in the backyard. I have got an older brother who played school cricket and I used to follow him around everywhere. My dad played a lot of cricket too so it all started there. Dad was teaching me how to play and then I think I just loved watching Australian teams play both Men and Women when I was growing up.”
She also goes on to add that she was indeed fortunate to have been born in the time when the greatest cricketers played. The Australian side was laden with world-class stars such as Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist. Perry also went on to add that the likes of Steve Waugh and others influenced the manner in which she plays her cricket.
Don’t like odd numbers
“I was fortunate to be born in an area when the Australian team was so successful. Those were the days of Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, and Adam Gilchrist, Lisa Sthalekar, Belinda Clark. They used to play for Australia and were just amazing to watch. I don’t really know why I picked No. 8 as my jersey number. I think I was just given it actually but I don’t like odd numbers so as long as it is an even number I don’t mind what number it is,” Perry stated.
