Australia leaves South Africa behind to become no.3 ranked T20I team in ICC rankings

Australia defeated India 2-0 in the recently played T20I series in their own den to register their first series win over India in the format. As a result, they have experienced a huge movement in the ICC T20I team rankings. Australia, who were ranked no.5 in the official ICC rankings, have leapfrogged to no.3 spot leaving South Africa behind at no.4. Australia won the first T20I by 3 wickets and second by 7 wickets, thanks to Glenn Maxwell’s performance of 56 and 113* in the two T20Is.

Glenn Maxwell also moved up to number 3 spot in the ICC T20I batsmen rankings with 815 points to his name, while captain Aaron Finch moved down to no.4 rankings. The ICC T20I batting rankings are led by Pakistan’s Babar Azam at no.1 with 885 points, with Kiwi Colin Munro at no.2 spot with 825 points.

Meanwhile, India’s Kuldeep Yadav slipped a spot down to no.4 thanks to not playing in the 2-match T20I series against Australia. Rashid Khan continues to be the no.1 ranked bowler in T20I rankings with 780 points, with Shadab Khan of Pakistan at no.2 place with 720 points.

In the T20I rankings for all-rounders, Glenn Maxwell attained the no.1 spot with 390 ranking points, dethroning Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who now resides at no.2 spot with 338 points. Australia won their first T20I series against India, handing India their first white-ball series defeat after 12 consecutive series wins at home since 2015.

Glenn Maxwell had done brilliantly well in the two T20Is, as Australia had a narrow win in the first T20I match when the partnership of Jhye Richardson and Pat Cummins scored 14 runs in the last over bowled by Umesh Yadav to win the match, after Maxwell had hit 56 in a tough chase of 126 runs.

In the second T20I, Virat Kohli scored 72* and with help of important innings from MS Dhoni, with whom he added 100 runs for the fourth wicket and KL Rahul, who made 47, taking India to 190. But Glenn Maxwell smacked his third T20I ton-113* to cruise Australia past the finishing line and secure the series.
