Australia pacer Andrew Tye ruled out for up to four months; to undergo elbow surgery

Australia pacer Andrew Tye, who last played for his country a year ago against India at home, is set to undergo an elbow surgery and will miss the rest of the summer. as per reports in ESPNcricinfo. The bowler will be out of action for at least three to four months and that will see him not featuring in the entire Big Bash League (BBL) season 2019-20 starting next month.

Tye will not be the only Australia international to see injury-related absence from the ground. Jason Behrendorff is another fast bowler who will miss the BBL as he is set to undergo a back operation.

Bad news for Perth Scorchers

The absence of Tye and Behrendorff is actually bad news for BBL side Perth Scorchers as both belong to the side. A team that was built on the ethos of current Australia coach Justin Langer using Money Ball has been weakened by the ruling-out of two of their main pacemen. Besides, the Scorchers’ Nathan Coulter-Nile has also signed up with the Melbourne Stars.

Tye, who has played seven ODIs and 26 T20Is, was also named initially in the Australia squads for the six T20Is at home against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. But he was withdrawn later after injuring his elbow during a fall. Tye was replaced by New South Wales’ Sean Abbott. The latest injury is a blow to Tye’s preparation for the T20 World Cup scheduled at home next October though he has a lot of time to recover fully.

Tye has 37 scalps in T20Is at a decent average of just over 22. Australia, however, Tye’s ouster will not be too much of a concern since the side has a well-oiled pace battery featuring the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson and Billy Stanlake.

Australia beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in a just-concluded T20I series at home and are presently taking on Pakistan. Their first T20I in Sydney on Sunday was washed off due to rain. Australia showed a strong performance against the Lankans with David Warner slamming his maiden hundred in the format followed by two fifties. All his knocks were unbeaten and he was chosen as the Man of the Series.
