The infamous rock pelted at the Australians which shattered a window pane on the team bus, sparked all sorts of concerns regarding the security measures in India. India’s sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, however, reassured the Australian cricketers about their safety and cited out the importance of security for foreign athletes visiting the nation.
Shortly after the incident, Australian opener Aaron Finch, took to Twitter to post a picture from the inside of the bus with a shattered window pane which faced the brunt of a rock thrown at it post India’s defeat in the second T20I at Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati.
The brand new stadium of Assam Cricket Association hosted its first international match and also, the city witnessed the Indian team in Guwahati after 7 years. The last time a match was played in the city of Guwahati was back in 2010 against New Zealand.
As a result, the intensity in the stadium was high with a sell out crowd witnessing the action. That said, the result of the match did not go as expected as India lost the match comprehensively by 8 wickets.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal dropped in a barrage of Tweets while condemning the action of the goon who attempted to sabotage the progress made by the Assamese in the sporting arena. The U17 FIFA World Cup is also being hosted in the city of Guwahati.
Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore personally assured the Australians to not worry about their safety by tweeting,”Guwahati stone-throwing incident NOT reflective of our security measures. Aus team & FIFA are content w/those. India remains a graceful host. Have spoken to @sarbanandsonwal Ji about the Guwahati incident. Personal security of visiting athletes & teams is extremely important for us.”
