Australia haven’t had the best of times in ODI cricket of late by any means as they have won only a couple of matches this year. Recently, they slumped to defeat in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Aaron Finch and Co made a comeback at Adelaide Oval after losing the opening match at Perth Stadium, but couldn’t get over the line in the deciding encounter at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
They are next scheduled to play an ODI series against India next year in January. Thereafter, Australia will again play five 50-overs matches against India, this time in the sub-continent. The Aussies will then take part in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. Albeit they have strained in the format for quite a while, expectations from them would be there for the reason that they are the World Champions.
I am happy to help them
In the meantime, Australia have sought the assistance of Pardeep Sahu, a leg-break bowler from Haryana, in order to learn the art of playing spin. Recently, the 33-year-old updated about the same, but he is yet to strike a deal with them.
“They want me to help Australian batsmen on how to judge spin and how to read the wrist position etc. I have not said yes to them yet, but if my schedule here permits me, I am happy to help them,” Sahu was quoted as saying in Mid Day.
Sahu doesn’t have a whole lot of experience at the domestic level. He played 13 first-class, 15 List ‘A’ and 15 T20s in which he has picked 13, seven and four wickets respectively. He also had the privilege of representing the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In five matches, the tweaker picked up three wickets. His last competitive match was against Mumbai Indians (MI) at PCA Stadium in Mohali.
