The former Australia cricketer and commentator Lisa Sthalekar opened up on how Starc went out of his way to gift the women pacers a pair of long spikes.
“It was actually the first day’s play when Stella [Campbell] was bowling. She had to put a bit of sawdust on [the crease]. The bowlers came off and Starc said, ‘Have you got your long spikes? The girls were like, ‘Long spikes? We’ve just got our normal spikes. So what he did was he actually went out and bought all the bowlers long spikes so they have a different set just in case, depending on the conditions,” Sthalekar told to 7 cricket.
India’s pacers dominate Day three against Australia
On Day two of the historic Test match, Smriti Mandhana scored her maiden Test century. Her belligerent innings made her the first Indian woman to score a century in day-night Tests and also the first from India to get the ton in red-ball cricket on Australian soil. The team resumed the proceedings from 276-5 when Deepti Sharma and Taniya Bhatia were present on the pitch.
Both the batters provided a good start to the session. Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux bowled with immense control and built up the pressure eventually. This gifted them a wicket of Bhatia who departed with 22 runs to her account. Before dinner, Pooja Vastrakar walked back the hut, giving Ellyse Perry her 300th international wicket.
Shortly after dinner, Stella Campbell’s short-of-length delivery sent Deepti Sharma back to the pavilion and India then declared at 377-8. When the Australian openers came in to bat, India’s ace pacer Jhulan Goswami made sure she dominates the proceedings. She removed both the openers quite early on and put India in the driver’s seat.
Pooja Vastrakar then scalped the wicket of Meg Lanning who was looking good on the field, trying to build on her innings. The bowler yet again chimed to break the partnership between Perry and Tahlia McGrath as she sent back the latter with a short and wide outside off stump delivery. Heading into Day four, Australia is trailing by 234 runs.
