Australian cricket will be facing one of its most challenging and confronting phases in the next few months. Two of their most important players, former skipper Steve Smith and his deputy David Warner have been stricken away from international cricket for a 12-month period due to their involvement in the recent ball-tampering scandal. Thus, with a rather inexperienced side, Australia suffered one of its biggest losses in Test cricket, when they lost the fourth Test match against the Proteas by 492 runs and with that, the series 3-1.
There are lot of questions which demand answers now: Warne
Following the rampant on-field and the off the field controversies during the entire dramatic Test series between Australia and South Africa, the visitors are finding themselves in a very distress and awakening situation. Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne also believes that currently there are a lot of questions that need answers. They need to identify some new faces who are equally passionate as well as have the required understanding of the game.
“Australia have a lot of questions to answer and I believe heads must roll on and off the field. Australia need new people who are passionate about the game in charge, but understand the game,” wrote Warne in his post on Instagram.
The former Aussie leg-spinner reckons that following the ball-tampering scandal, a lot of opportunities will be coming for the players to prominently grab them. However, during Smith’s absence, Australia will also be searching for a good captain who can lead this side and take Australian cricket forward.
“Australia can be a force again, but need the right people involved. There is a huge opportunity now for players and people to be leaders. All positions are in jeopardy and need to be looked at, heads must roll,” further added the leg-spinner.
Warne takes a dig at the accountability of CA officials
Warney was himself present on the commentary during the last two Test matches between South Africa and Australia and thus he can state the current state of the members of the Aussie side following the whole controversy. He also raised some questions regarding the accountability of the senior officials of Cricket Australia (CA). The position of all the coaches for the different aspects need to understand the importance of their role.
“Every single position on the field, off the field, starting from James Sutherland at the top, Pat Howard who is in charge of cricket excellence, all these people. The coaches. Batting coaches — when are we going to produce a good batsman? All these people need to be (held accountable), saying ‘right — are they good enough for that position? Who else have we got to take their position?” concluded the former Aussie cricketer aiming questions at the CA officials and the coaching staff of Australian team.
