Both the teams will face-off in three T20Is and ODIs each in a bio-secure environments in Manchester and Southampton. Australia, led by Aaron Finch, will reach England on August 24. This also confirms that the cricketers involved in this series will miss at least the first week of the IPL starting on September 19 in UAE.

This series will also mark Australia’s comeback to international cricket having last played at home in an ODI against New Zealand in March at the SCG. The contest will also wind up England’s international summer. They played the three-match Test series against West Indies, three ODIs against Ireland and are currently playing Pakistan in the longer format. They are also scheduled to face the Men in Green in three T20 Internationals.

T20I series between England and Australia to start on September 4

Australia players will first reach Derbyshire on August 24 before moving to The Ageas Bowl three days later after the Test series between England and Pakistan ends, ECB confirmed in a press release. The visitors will play one 50-over intra-squad practice game and three T20 practice matches before the series commences on September 4 with the T20Is.

All three T20 Internationals will be played in Southampton while the ODI series, starting on September 11, will take place at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The tour will end on September 16 after which the players with IPL contracts will fly to the UAE. The ODIs will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison was delighted that the summer is going ahead as planned in bio-secure environment for the board. He also congratulated his colleagues for organising multiple series successfully. “The rivalry between England and Australia is the pinnacle of sporting competition. The Vitality IT20s and Royal London Series will be thrilling contests and a perfect way to culminate the men’s international season in this extraordinary summer.

“I want to congratulate my colleagues at the ECB and the various bio-secure venues working tirelessly in unprecedented circumstances, as we work to ensure that all England men’s international fixtures are fulfilled during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said in the statement.
