South Africa made a brilliant comeback against Australia in the first Test match at Perth by bowling out the hosts for just 244, who were cursing at 158 for no loss at a stage. Trailing by 2 runs, South Africa began their 2nd innings and finished the day 2 at 102/2. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day.

0 – Number of specialist spinners before Keshav Maharaj who made their Test debut at Perth. In fact, he is only the 3rd player to bowl spin on his Test debut at Perth.

1 – Runs scored by Hashim Amla in this Test, the joint lowest for him. He aggregated 1 run vs England in 2004 and vs India in 2006, both at Durban.

2 – Australia’s 2-run first innings lead is the 2nd lowest they have taken ever in Test cricket. Lowest is 1-run lead vs England in 2003 at Sydney.

10 – South Africa losing their first wicket in the first innings with the score of zero was the 10th instance of them losing their first wicket without adding anything on board in Test cricket; 2nd such instance for them in Australia.

16 – For the first time in Test cricket, David Warner got out in the nineties. He scored 16 Test centuries before his first 90s score. Only Justin Langer (21 tons) scored more centuries than Warner in Tests before being dismissed in the 90s.

73 – David Warner’s average while batting in the first match of home Test series. He has 949 runs in 14 innings in the first match of the series at home including 5 centuries. Among Australians, only Michael Slater with 79.61 averages more than Warner. (Min: 750 runs)

86 – Runs added by Australia for their last 10 wickets, the third lowest by any team after a 150+ opening stand in Tests. Zimbabwe’s collapse from 164/0 to 228/10 vs West Indies in 2001 was the worst collapse after a 150+ opening stand.

90.03 – David Warner’s strike rate at Perth in Tests is the 3rd best for any batsman at a particular venue in this format. (Min: 500 runs) Gilchrist has a strike rate of 95.41 at Perth itself while Sehwag strikes at a rate of 93.94 at Chennai.
