Pat Cummins, the new Australian captain, couldn’t have asked for a better start to his tenure, as he claimed five-for in the first innings of the first Ashes Test and also led his side to a nine-wicket thrashing of England at the Gabba, Brisbane. Pat Cummins and centurion Travis Head along with David Warner were the stars as the Three Lions had no answer against them eventually suffering their tenth defeat in the last 11 Tests in Australia. The second Test takes place on December 16, 2021, at the Adelaide Oval.

Nathan Lyon too reached his personal milestone by taking his 400th Test wicket and becoming the third Australian bowler to do so. For England, it was Joe Root again who is enjoying a tremendous 2021 as he registered his highest score (89) in Australia and also became the England batter with most runs in a calendar year. Dawid Malan too scored 82 but it was not enough for the England team, who surprisingly went into the Test match without Stuart Broad and James Anderson.

England would be looking to play both of their premier fast bowlers who share staggering 1156 wickets between them in Test matches. Joe Root and his men will be raring to win after the inclusion of the experienced pace duo. On the other hand, Australia will look to continue the dominance over their rivals at home and go 2-0 up in the series.
