Team Australia recently registered an emphatic win in the Ashes 2017-18. They romped home with a thundering 4-0 scoreline. They are now set to host England in 5-match ODI series commencing on January 14. Ahead of the ODI fixtures, the team has received a major blow in the form of Chris Lynn. Lynn has been ruled out of the series due to a calf injury.

An official of the Cricket Australia, as per the quotes in Hindustan Times, confirmed the news about the same. Reportedly, Chris Lynn injured his right calf during his recent assignment for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL against the Perth Scorchers. This is a big blow for Lynn. He had received an ODI call up after almost a year. Last year, he was named in the squad for ODI series against Pakistan but had to bow out of the series due to shoulder injury.

“Chris initially left the field against the Scorchers complaining of tightness in his calf. He reported increasing discomfort over the 24 hours that followed and the Heat’s medical staff made the decision to send him for a scan. That scan confirmed the injury, which is expected to prevent him from playing for three to four weeks,” quoted CA’s science and medicine manager Alex Kountouris.

This comes as a big blow for the hard-hitting Australian batsman. Not only does this rule him out of the ODI series, it also ends up giving a subtle indication to many big heads about his injury-prone nature. He was recently ignored at the IPL retention by his franchise, and the injury can potentially see him lose out on bigger opportunities in the IPL auctions this year as well.

Prove his fitness again

Speaking further on the same note, the official remarked that whenever Chris Lynn gets back on the field, he will be expected to prove his match fitness for the international level. Unless he gets that done, he will not be considered for an international call up.

“When Chris recovers, the expectation is that he will need to prove his fitness in match action before being considered again for international selection,” Kountouris added.
