Chahal was awarded the player of the match for his three crucial wickets.
After losing the One-Day series by 1-2, India had a decent start in the T20I series as they defeated Australia by 11 runs to take a lead by 1-0 at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday. It was a comprehensive victory for the visitors as they did a fine job in all three facets of the game.
Losing the toss, Virat Kohli & Co. were put to bat first. The opening woes for India continued in T20 International too as Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket in the third over and went back to the pavilion after scoring 1 run off 6 deliveries. He was soon followed by skipper Virat Kohli who had a bad day at the office and could contribute only 9 runs. After that, Australia dominated the game as they quickly took four more wickets and India were reeling at 114-6.
However, all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja smashed a stunning 44 runs off 23 deliveries despite having hamstring issues and being hit on the helmet to propel India to a competitive total of 161 for 7 in 20 overs. In the second half, Jadeja was replaced by Yuzvendra Chahal as India named him the concussion substitute for the former.
Yuzvendra Chahal and T Natarajan scripts victory for India
Chasing 162, Australia had an explosive start as they collected 53 runs in the first six overs. But the inclusion of Chahal in the bowling department proved to be a masterstroke as he took the priced wicket of opposition skipper Aaron Finch in the 8th over only to return in the 10th over and send Steve Smith back to the pavilion. Soon after this, T Natarajan was handed the ball and he named the power-hitter Glenn Maxwell as his maiden T20I wicket.
With 3 big wickets, India made a comeback in the game and ensured that the momentum remains on their side by taking timely wickets. Both T Natarajan and Yuzvendra Chahal finished as the highest wicket-takers for visitors by taking three wickets each while Deepak Chahar had one to his name. Spinner Washington Sundar was also brilliant with the ball as he gave just 16 runs in his 4 overs. Thus, India won the game by 11 runs.
