Australia vs India, 1st Test, Day 5: Best Memes
India survived a lower-order scare this time to take a 1-0 lead.
India had to fight hard to register their first win in Australia in ten years. The tail-enders of the hosts frustrated them to the hilt despite being reduced to 187/7 when the last recognised batsman Tim Paine was dismissed. But they just had enough runs on the board and eventually, it proved 45 runs too many for Australia as they were bundled out for just 277 runs as India took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
The day started with Australia at 104/4 and all their hopes were pinned on the experienced Shaun Marsh who was batting well. Even Travis Head had played well in the first innings. But he was dismissed by Ishant Sharma with a snorter of a bouncer as the first hour belonged to India. Tim Pine, the skipper, arrived at the crease and the runs started to flow suddenly. Marsh looked in good touch scoring a half-century but he was snaffled by Jasprit Bumrah to leave Australia reeling at 156/6.
This is where the famous lower-order resilience from the hosts began. Paine and Pat Cummins didn’t deter as they went unscathed until lunch.
Lyon frustrates the whole of India
Paine was dismissed soon after the lunch and many felt that this was the final nail in the coffin. But the Aussie pace trio and the off-spinner who took 20 Indian wickets with the ball, took it upon themselves to win the game for their country. First Cummins and Mitchell Starc added 41 runs for the eighth wicket as the latter went after the bowling. When Starc was sent back by Mohammed Shami for 28, Nathan Lyon came to frustrate the visitors.
Cummins by then had faced more than 100 deliveries as the duo brought the required runs down. Cummins finally edged one of the deliveries and with more than 70 runs needed, India were creating history soon. But this victory in Australia after 10 years wasn’t going to come easily for the visitors.
Josh Hazlewood and Lyon brought it down to 32 runs to make everyone nervous. However, this time India were better prepared to close out the game and Ashwin finally ended the vigil and seal a historic victory.
Meanwhile, Indian bowlers were trolled hilariously on social media again for letting the lower-order score runs while Australia were also at the receiving end.
