Australia are just five wickets away from a stupendous victory in the second Test as they are all set to level the four-match series. India, chasing a mammoth total of 287 runs, have gone down quite early and are left with only five wickets in hand and four tail-enders among them. They are still 175 runs adrift of a highly unlikely victory with the two youngsters in Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant fighting it out in the middle.
KL Rahul’s poor run in the Tests continued as the state of the pitch played on his mind and he was left unsure whether to leave or play the full pitched delivery only to get played onto his stumps. He bagged another duck and might have played the last innings of this series with Prithvi Shaw getting fit for the next Test. Cheteshwar Pujara got a good nut from Josh Hazlewood while Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay tried to put up a fight but were sent back by Nathan Lyon.
The same happened with Ajinkya Rahane who once again threw the kitchen sink at the wide deliveries and started positively. But again, he couldn’t carry on and scored only 30 runs to leave his team reeling at 98/5. However, the duo of Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant survived the remainder of the day. The former has looked calm and composed so far and is proving that he belongs to this level by scoring 24 runs on a tough pitch off 58 balls.
Shami wrecks havoc but a little too late
Earlier in the day, with the match hanging in the balance, Australia slowly but surely took the game away from India. The duo of Tim Paine and Usman Khawaja played out th first session bravely scoring only 58 runs in 30 overs. But it did the job for the as the lead swelled past 230. However, in the post-lunch session, Mohammed Shami wrecked havoc and affected a collapse.
He bowled superb deliveries to send back Paine, Khawaja and Aaron Finch in quick succession as Australia were reduced to 198/8 from 190/4. But the last-wicket partnership did extremely well for the hosts to add 35 runs and take the game further away from India.
It will only be a matter of time now on the fifth and final day when Australia will wrap up the innings and level the series going into the Boxing Day Test.
Meanwhile, the hurt Indian fans tried to make do with some hilarious memes on social media and trolled their team hilariously.
