With the rain gods intervening, the T20I series between India and Australia finished in a stalemate, setting up a pulsating platform for the highly anticipated Test series. The subcontinental side is aiming to register their first ever Test series triumph Down Under and with some key Australian players missing, they see this as their best opportunity to emerge triumphant.
The odds though are still in favour of Australia owing to India’s history in the land of the Kangaroos. The hosts also have a lethal bowling attack, who will pose a big challenge in grounds like the MCG and Perth. To what extent the Indian cricketers can overcome the glitches and excel in this series will serve as a testament to their progress in recent years.
Talking about progress, a few cricketers in the Indian setup find themselves in a precarious position. This series will be a do-or-die situation for these individuals, who might not get more backing from the coach, captain or selectors if things don’t go well in this series.
Here are three players whose career is at stake in the Test series which commences in Adelaide on December 6th.
1. KL Rahul
His career might not be in deep trouble, but a temporary sacking might surely come into the picture if KL Rahul will have a mediocre outing. His performances against England and Windies have been below par and with youngsters like Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw hammering runs for fun, Rahul finds his opening spot up for grabbing.
He has the technique and mental grit which is required to succeed in conditions like these. But lack of application and calmness cost him some great opportunities to excel. He has not been in a good state of mind for a while now and if this continues in the upcoming series, the likes of Mayank and Prithvi might take over his position.
