Australia vs India: Ajinkya Rahane confident of notching a century in Melbourne
"Personal milestones can come later."
Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane has been under the pump for the last few months owing to his lacklustre form with the bat in hand. However, in India’s ongoing tour of Australia, the Mumbai batsman hasn’t flattered to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. The 30-year-old impressed in the warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI at Sydney Cricket Ground, scoring 56 runs.
In the first Test at Adelaide Oval, Rahane faltered in the first innings, but scored a gutsy half-century in the second innings. The right-hander racked up another half-century at the new Perth Stadium. The third and penultimate Test gets underway on December 26, Boxing Day at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Rahane said that he’s confident of getting a ton at the iconic venue.
The batsmen definitely need to step up
“It (century) will definitely come. I’m really sure it will come in this Test match with the way I am batting since Adelaide. I think I will get two hundreds but it will be important for me not to think about it and continue the way I am batting. If I can read the situation well and bat accordingly it will be better for the team. Personal milestones can come later,” Rahane was quoted as saying in The Hindustan Times.
Rahane also put forth the significance of the batsmen, scoring runs in overseas conditions. Furthermore, He lauded the Indian bowlers for delivering the goods in the hour of need.
“The batsmen definitely need to step up. When we discuss the batting unit, that point is very important. Especially when we are abroad, the bowlers have been taking 20 wickets since South Africa, so if the batsmen help the bowlers the results will be favouring us,” he added.
India won the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs courtesy of an all-round show. However, the visitors couldn’t quite replicate their performance in Perth and slumped to a defeat by 146 runs. After the MCG Test, the fourth and final Test will start on January 3 in Sydney.
