Ravindra Jadeja, the Saurashtra all-rounder didn’t play the first two Tests against Australia in Adelaide and Perth. Off-spinner Ravi Ashwin developed an abdominal strain prior to the second encounter, yet Jadeja didn’t find a place in the eleven. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri, Indian cricket’s head coach, mentioned that he wasn’t picked since he wasn’t 100 percent fit.

The comments led to speculations that an unfit Jadeja was picked in the Australia tour. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cleared the air over the matter and said that the spin-bowling all-rounder has made a fast recovery and is now fit to play the third Test on December 26, Boxing Day at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

BCCI makes a statement on Jadeja

“Mr Jadeja’s left shoulder has continued to improve and he is now available for the 3rd Test match of the series in Melbourne,” a BCCI release quoted the same as per reports in The Times of India (TOI).

“Jadeja complained of a left shoulder discomfort after prolonged bowling spells during the 2018, West Indies ODI series. He underwent a guided injection in Mumbai for this on 2nd November.

This gave Mr Jadeja good relief of his symptoms and he played in the Ranji Trophy match for Saurashtra from 12 to 15 November in which he completed 64 overs without any issues. He was thereby declared fit by the BCCI and selected for the Test series against Australia,” the report added.

Apart from Jadeja, India have had a couple of more fitness concerns as well. Before the red-ball fixtures, right-handed batsman Prithvi Shaw twisted his ankle and he was subsequently ruled out of the series. Mayank Agarwal was drafted in as his replacement. Rohit Sharma also injured his lower back before the second Test and Hanuma Vihari replaced him in the eleven.
