Australia vs India: BCCI gives update on Navdeep Saini's injury

India’s tour of Australia 2020-21 has seen almost every injury which can happen to a cricketer on the field. The visitors have had loads of injuries since the time they have arrived on the shores of Australia. As they got out to play the final Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, India found another player injured. 

Navdeep Saini, who made his Test debut in the previous match, was seen walking off the field holding his groin area. The Delhi pacer was bowling the 36th over when this happened. The team is already without their entire first-choice bowling unit. Saini was a pacer with a lot of experience in first-class cricket and India A cricket. He didn’t return to the field after that incident. 

Navdeep Saini out for now with groin issues

BCCI tweeted from its official Twitter account stating that the young bowler has complained of pain in his groin and was being looked after by the medical team. The tweet read, “Navdeep Saini has complained of pain in his groin. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team.” Following this, the board further tweeted that he was taken for scans. 

Saini was impressive during the spell of one ball short of eight overs. The 28-year-old might actually have got a wicket just before he left the field, but luck wasn’t on his side. The ball got the edge of Marnus Labuschagne and flew to Ajinkya Rahane, who dropped the catch. After which, Saini decided to walk off the field.

India fielded Shardul Thakur (second Test), Washington Sundar (debut), Navdeep Saini (second Test), Mohammed Siraj (third Test), and T Natarajan (debut) as the five bowlers of this Test. This is their most inexperienced bowling unit in a Test since the 1930s. 

Rohit comes and finishes Saini’s over with medium pace bowling

Interestingly, Rohit Sharma, the vice-captain of the side, came on to complete the over by bowling just one ball. The batsman was once an off-spin bowler and also took a hat-trick in an IPL match, but in recent times, he hasn’t been seen bowling too much. Also, he decided to bowl medium pace, instead of his usual off-spin.
