Australia vs India: BCCI shares an update on Rishabh Pant’s elbow injury

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared an update on Rishabh Pant’s elbow injury that he suffered during India’s third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The southpaw copped a blow on his elbow during the third day’s play after he couldn’t get in the line of a short-pitched delivery from ICC’s number-one Test bowler Pat Cummins.

The ball didn’t bounce much and went under Pant’s bat. After the left-hander got hit, the physio rushed on to the field and treated him. The youngster resumed batting after the doctor applied a bandage on his elbow. The talented batsman couldn’t continue for long and was dismissed a couple of overs later for a score of 36.

As per the world’s richest cricket board, Pant has gone for scans to check the gravity of his injury. “Rishabh Pant was hit on the left elbow while batting in the second session on Saturday. He has been taken for scans,” the BCCI mentioned in a tweet. More developments on his injury update remain to be seen for the time being.

Wriddhiman Saha has taken the field, in the meantime, replacing Pant as the wicketkeeper. Saha played in the Day-Night Adelaide Test before being benched for the Melbourne and Sydney Test. India have one more Test remaining and the team management would be hoping for Pant to get fit at the earliest. The fourth Test is scheduled to get underway on January 15.

Going through the Test series, India have already been jolted with quite a few body blows. Even before the series started, Ishant Sharma was ruled out due to an injury that he sustained during the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. Thereafter, Mohammed Shami fractured his forearm during the Adelaide Test and was ruled out thereafter.

To add insult to injury, Umesh Yadav isn’t a part of the series either after being ruled out of the Sydney and Brisbane Tests. Due to the blows, India had to hand Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini their maiden Test caps. Indian skipper Virat Kohli is also on paternity leave with Ajinkya Rahane shouldering the mantle of captaincy.
