Australia vs India: Cameron Bancroft visits the Australian team at new Perth Stadium
He is currently serving a nine-months ban from Cricket Australia (CA).
The Australian cricket team faces a stern test to save the Test series as they take on the visitors India, who are leading the four-match series by 1-0. While the hosts have been sweating it out in the training sessions, they had a familiar face, visiting them in Cameron Bancroft, who is on the brink of completing his nine-month suspension.
The Western Australian, who was prohibited from playing domestic and international cricket for his role in the ball-tampering controversy, will play for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League 2018-19. He will miss the initial matches since his ban is set to expire on December 29th. However, it could be long before Bancroft is selected to don the national colours.
Bancroft was seen at the new Perth Stadium, having a chat with the Australian captain Tim Paine. Marcus Harris, who used to play alongside Bancroft before moving to Victoria, said that he was delighted to see Bancroft playing in the Test side. The opener, who registered a pair of 26 in his first Test also understands that there are players lining up to take his place in the team if he doesn’t deliver the goods.
Harris wishes Bancroft good luck
The Victorian batsman addressed that he has been in constant touch with the beleaguered cricketer and is really good mates with him. In spite of being poles opposite in personalities, they share a good bond and is hoping for Bancroft to bounce back once his ban ends.
Harris said as quoted by the Sydney Morning Herald: “If I make runs that’ll probably look after itself, and if I don’t it’ll probably come down to a bit of competition with other blokes. We are sort of opposites in personality. A yin and yang thing. Bangers is the most intense man in the world and I was a bit more chilled out, but it worked really well. I was really happy for him last year when he was playing in the Test side, I thought he started doing really well.”
“We chat regularly, we’re really good mates. He said once he’s back, he’s going to shave that beard off, so I’m looking forward to that. He seems in good spirits so I really hope he goes well,” he added.
