Australia vs India: Jasprit Bumrah confident about visitors' position in Adelaide Test
Bumrah's own performance has been top notch as well.
Albeit rain tried to play spoilsport on the third day of the opening Test between Australia and India, the day wasn’t short of entertainment. Earlier in the day, India picked up the last three Aussie wickets to help themselves to a lead of 15 runs. Thereafter, the likes of KL Rahul and Murali Vijay cobbled together a stand of 63, which laid the platform for the visiting team to build on their lead.
However, both were dismissed in quick succession. Indian captain Virat Kohli played a patient knock of 34 runs from 104 balls with three fours. But Nathan Lyon nipped him out. At the close of play, Cheteshwar Pujara is not out on 40 from 127 balls and along with him is Ajinkya Rahane. Moreover, they have managed to garner a lead of 166 runs with seven wickets remaining.
I don’t think these things are important to us
In the meantime, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah reckons the encounter is tilted towards India. “It is slightly in our favour. The late wicket (of Virat Kohli) was a good thing for them but we have a good lead. If we capitalise on that and have a good first session (on Sunday), that will leave us in a very good place in this match,” Bumrah was quoted as saying to the reporters on Saturday evening.
When Kohli came out to bat in the second innings, he was greeted with boos from a small section of the 30,000 people present at the venue. Speaking about the same, Bumrah said: “I don’t think these things are important to us because for us, what happens in that circle is important. Everything else, we can’t control. If they want to, they can do whatever they want. As long as we are doing well, we are happy.”
From the personal front, Bumrah has been impressive, to say the least. He picked up the prized wicket of Peter Handscomb and also got rid of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in the first innings. His figures read 24-9-47-3. He would now be keen to do well when Australia come out to chase.
