India’s bowling has always been a weak link in the team especially while playing overseas. But it is no more the same. The pace attack not only dominated at home but also tasted success in away tours especially in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) in 2018. Indian pacers picked 151 wickets away from home last year which is highest for any team. The bowlers have bowled with good pace and accuracy, with the ability to swing both ways they have been most threating bowling attack in the world.
They have together taken 172 wickets at an average of 23.72 in 2018. Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma featured in the list of top ten wicket-takers of the year which wasn’t the case with any other team. While Shami and Bumrah are joint second highest wicket-takers with 45 scalps whereas Kagiso Rabada was leading the charts with 52 wickets to his name.
It is unbelievable
Former Indian captain Kapil Dev has hailed the Indian pacers performances in last fifteen months and said there is no other team who has done well like them. “Beautiful, fantastic… in the last 15 months no other team has done so well in pace bowling. The Indian team has done so well, I don’t have to say anything, they have done so well… it is unbelievable,” he was quoted as saying by Mid-day.
He was also delighted to see the fast bowlers coming through the ranks in the Indian domestic circuit and also realises that the change hasn’t happened overnight and it was a process which began long ago.
“It is different (to see fast bowlers coming through in India). An Indian fast bowler coming out and playing so hard, sometimes you feel how the hell they are doing all that. But I think it is good to have a change of culture, a fast bowler is fantastic,” India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain added.
