Australia vs India: Kapil Dev predicts the outcome of the Day-Night Adelaide Test

Former Indian skipper and ace all-rounder Kapil Dev has come up with his predictions ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar series. The two heavyweights of the cricket world are all set to begin their rivalry from December 17. The series opener would be the Pink ball Day-Night Test, which would be the first one between two nations. Hosts would be looking up to clinch the trophy this time after losing their last two series.

On the other hand, India would be eyeing to get their hands on the Border-Gavaskar trophy for the record third time in a row. As both the teams are gearing well for the big contest, Kapil Dev reckons that the hosts have a slight edge over the visitors in the coming pink-ball Test. The fact is that Australia have played many more Day-Night Tests than India, and it will be on their soil. Therefore, they will have a home advantage over India.

“Definitely, Australia have the edge. They are playing in their backyard. If India were playing a pink-ball Test in India, I would say 80 percent our chances. But Australia have played so many (pink ball) Tests, and they understand the conditions better under the floodlights,” said Kapil Dev as quoted by Cricket Addictor.

Australia have played seven day-night Tests till time and have won all of them, playing four in Adelaide. And, India has played only the pink ball Test so far against Bangladesh last year. Dev has also advised the Indian pacers to bowl with their full strength and not get carried away with the bouncy wickets. India will miss the services of their star pacers like Bhubhneshwar Yadav, Ishant Sharma, etc.

“Our fast bowlers are not that used to bowling on Australian pitches. Sometimes they may get carried away when they see a little bit of bounce and start bowling short. It’s very important to understand their pace and back their strengths. We may have a very good pace bowling attack at this stage, but they (Australians) know the conditions better than our fast bowlers,” added Kapil Dev.
