A mini-controversy broke out in Indian cricket following the team’s historic Test series win in Australia and it featured two members of the side who made contentious remarks on a popular television show. The repercussion of the remarks, especially those made by all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been far-reaching with even the country’s cricket board mulling a two-match ban on the duo. India are set to play Australia in their first ODI in Sydney on Saturday, flagging off their last leg of the tour Down Under in the run-up to the ICC World Cup.

The other member who was involved in the controversy, KL Rahul, was however spotted practising with the other members of the squad on the eve of the first ODI. The top-order batsman, who is in the middle of a wretched run with the bat and fared badly in the Test series, was seen along with the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kuldeep Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Khaleel Ahmed and Ravindra Jadeja at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The ODI will be the third assignment for India at the SCG on this tour after the practice game ahead of the Test series and the fourth Test which ended earlier this week. Both those games, however, remained inconclusive. The Indian players were forced to practise indoors on Thursday because of rain but enjoyed the outing on Friday.

Here’s BCCI’s post where Rahul can be seen

BCCI not content with Pandya apology

Both Rahul and Pandya are in the ODI squad and it is yet not known whether they would be made to sit out on Saturday as the BCCI is considering a two-match ban on them on the suggestion of Vinod Rai, the chief of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators that runs the board.

Both the cricketers were show-caused by the board after their talks were aired and Pandya’s apology did not seem convincing for it. On Friday, Indian captain Virat Kohli said the Indian team had nothing to do with individual thoughts and such a controversy would not have any impact on the team’s feat and focus.
