The second day of the Test match witnessed the Australian batting order struggle. Although this has been the case for some time now, the hosts were expected to change things up playing at home. However, that wasn’t to happen and hence there are suggestions pouring in from all over. Mitchell Marsh, who hasn’t done much good in the longer format of the game was overlooked for the Adelaide Test.

But, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan wants the all-rounder back in the XI. While many believe that it will be extremely difficult for the younger Marsh to make it back to the Test fold, Vaughan thinks otherwise. He supposes that Australia will lose one of its biggest weapons in case they ignore Marsh.

Mitchell Marsh should be given a longer run

Vaughan thinks that Mitchell Marsh could be Australia’s biggest strengths in the upcoming Ashes series as well. He suggested the selectors that persistence with him is the only way forward. The cricketer-turned-commentator feels that Marsh will unlock his full-potential if given a longer run in the format.

“Australia have to buy into Mitchell Marsh. If he’s going to be around the Test match team for a few years he needs a run in the side. I would have played him this week. (He) is certainly worth persisting with. I think the only way he’ll get better and be a real prominent member of the Test team is to play a run of games. When you come to England in a few months’ time his style of bowling and play will be invaluable,” the 44-year-old told on Friday.

“I would have played him this week. I do think in these type of conditions you need five bowling options. And, I think he’s the kind of cricketer if they (Australia selectors) buy time with him and give him a run of games he can get better. I like his batting, he’s quite rigid and he needs to work against spin a bit better. His bowling is certainly worth persisting with,” he signed off as per Fox Cricket.
