Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was left out of the Australia team for the opening Test against India at Adelaide Oval. He was included in the 14-man squad for the first match but missed out along with the likes of Chris Tremain and Peter Siddle. Rather, he took part in the Sheffield Shield, representing Western Australia in their match against Victoria in Melbourne.
In the meantime, Australia lost the first match by 31 runs and the team would want to make some changes going into the second Test at Perth Stadium, which is scheduled to get underway on Friday, December 14. Marsh sounded confident about his comeback in the national team.
I still felt like I was in really good form
“I was obviously very disappointed to miss out in the first Test but I understood the reasons why. Ultimately, you’ve got two ways to go about it – you can either sulk and go into your shell or you can put a smile on your face and enjoy the hard work, enjoy the challenge of getting back into that Test side.
I still felt like I was in really good form and feeling very confident heading into last week. But ultimately I still had two chances before the Test match to put a big score on the board and I didn’t do that. The message was clear – I needed more runs,” Marsh was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz.
Earlier, Mitchell plied his trade in the two-match series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the tour, he failed miserably in all the departments in both the matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively. He could only score 30 runs in four innings at a dismal average of 7.25.
Thereafter, he played a couple of T20Is against Pakistan in Dubai after which he honed his skills in four first-class matches against Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales, and Victoria. In 30 Test matches, Marsh has scored 1200 runs at an average of 26.08 along with 35 wickets.
