India didn’t have the best of times in the first couple of T20Is against Australia. In the first match at The Gabba in Brisbane, the visitors lost the match despite scoring more runs as the Duckworth Lewis Stern method was applied. The Men in Blue made a stupendous comeback and got the opponents by the scruff of their necks at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Nevertheless, rain halted play and frustrated the cricketers for some time after which play had to be abandoned. It also meant that India won’t have the chance of winning the series with one match remaining to be played today at Sydney Cricket Ground. In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Murali Kartik has called for one change to be made for the final T20I.

India need a bowler like him

“Just because you had a better day with the ball doesn’t mask or hide the fact that someone like Yuzvendra Chahal adds so much value and depth to the bowling. And more than that, he has that wicket-taking ability which is rare for a bowler to have in T20I.

His six-fer, we all know that from Bengaluru and even otherwise. Just the ability to run through a side and make that important dent into the batting lineup, you need a bowler like him,” Kartik was quoted as saying in ESPNCricinfo.

Chahal hasn’t played many T20Is in the last few months. He was left out of the first two T20Is against Windies in Kolkata and Lucknow respectively. The Haryana tweaker played the last match in Chennai and picked up a couple of crucial wickets.

Even in Down Under, Baroda all-rounder Krunal Pandya has been preferred ahead of him. In 27 T20Is for India, Chahal has picked up 44 wickets with best figures of 6/25 against England that came last year at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
