Australia vs India: Pat Cummins gives an earful to Rishabh Pant after failing to connect a slog
The Aussies have started to play their mind games.
The highly anticipated Test series of the year between Australia and India and as expected there was some banter on the 22 yards. After so much talk about the series to be played in a friendly way, the Aussies were back to normalcy as they enjoyed being at the top in the game for a whole day after a long time. The domination led to them sledging the Indian batsmen who were under the pump on the first day of the Test series.
At 86/5, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant walked out to bat with the tails up of the opposition bowlers and started playing his shots from the word go. However, he never managed to connect as Mitchell Starc got stuck into him with a brilliant over. From the other end, it was Pat Cummins who was breathing fire having picked the most prized wicket of Virat Kohli.
Pant feels the heat
Rishabh Pant, despite the team being trouble, tried to go for big shots which left many surprised. Even the Australian were trying to get under his skin. During the 43rd over of the innings, the left-hander played an ugly hoick with the team’s score reading 110/5. It goes without saying that he didn’t connect the slog as Cummins had bowled it with a speed in excess of 140 kmph.
The attempted shot made Pant look sheepish out in the middle as Cummins, with his tail up, tried to unsettle him much like Starc did in the earlier overs to the same batsman. The fast bowler was constantly in his ears during a probing over though Pant didn’t react to any of those ignoring all the talk.
Having said that, Rishabh couldn’t capitalize on the start and could only score 25 runs during his stay in the middle before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon. It was Cheteshwar Pujara who saved the day for India else the visitors would’ve got bowled out for a cheap score having won the toss and opted to bat first.
