Albeit India have quite a few talented fast bowlers for the tour of Australia, they will be looking up to Ravi Ashwin in the spin department. He has been a fulcrum of the Test team having picked up 336 wickets in 64 matches. Moreover, he also has the experience of bowling in Australian conditions when he toured the nation for the 2014-15 series and ended with 12 wickets from three matches.

India lost that series four years ago and they are again scheduled to play a four-match series against them. The opening Test is set to start from Thursday, December 6 at Adelaide Oval and Ravi Ashwin would be keen to churn out some impressive performances with the ball. In the meantime, batsman Cheteshwar Pujara reckons Ashwin is prepared to wield his magic on Australian pitches.

We got what we wanted in the practice game

“If you see his recent bowling, I think he has made a lot of changes. I can’t describe what it is, not in front of the media. But he has made some adjustments which has helped him. He has played enough cricket in England which is obviously different conditions, not much help for the spinner.

So I think when he’s playing in Australia, he knows what he has to do. He has also played a series in 2015 (here) so he’s very confident now. And whatever adjustments he had to make, he has already done it,” Pujara was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI).

Prior to the red-ball fixtures, Virat Kohli’s men played a four-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI at Sydney Cricket Ground. The first day’s play was washed off and the encounter was eventually drawn. Nevertheless, Pujara seemed satisfied with how the contest panned out. He also put forth the team’s plans in the break ahead of the opening Test.

“We got what we wanted in the practice game and the trainer and the physio has been monitoring the workload. We thought that it was best to take a break today and train for the next two days and be fresh for the Test match,” the Saurashtra cricketer added.
