India have played a couple of Tests against Australia in the ongoing tour and the visitors have already been encountered with a few injury concerns. Prithvi Shaw, the opening batsman, was ruled out owing to an ankle injury. India won the first Test at the popular Adelaide Oval by 31 runs, but two of the members- Ravi Ashwin and Rohit Sharma- who were a part of the eleven, developed injuries.
Subsequently, Umesh Yadav and Hanuma Vihari replaced them in the Perth Test. In the meantime, Ashwin remains uncertain for the third Test which is scheduled to get underway on December 26, Boxing Day at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Ravi Shastri, Indian cricket team’s head coach, mentioned that a decision on his inclusion would be made after the next 48 hours.
Ashwin was impressive in Adelaide
“As far as Ashwin is concerned, we are going to take a look and evaluate over the next 48 hours,” Shastri was quoted as saying to the reporters before the upcoming Test. Ashwin picked up six wickets, three each in both innings, and turned out to be a headache, especially for the Aussie left-handed batsmen. The 32-year-old Tamil Nadu-born tweaker, thereafter, developed an abdominal strain.
Shastri also updated about Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya. “Rohit Sharma looks good, he has made very good improvement. But then again, we have to see how he pulls up tomorrow (on Monday). He looks good as of today. Pandya is fit,” he added. Rohit developed a lower-back injury prior to the Perth Test while Pandya was added to the squad after his back injury in September.
After a resounding show in Adelaide, India slumped to a defeat in Perth and lost by 146 runs despite Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, scoring his 25th Test century. The fourth and final Test will start on Thursday, January 3 at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
