When Yuvraj Singh played for India, it was not uncommon to see him picking a ball zooming over or past him from the air with unbelievable agility. The man’s reflex actions on the ground were another major attraction apart from his muscular hitting. On Tuesday, Yuvraj’s dear friend Rohit Sharma almost replicated the former in the covers while Australia were batting in the first innings though he could not succeed eventually.

Australia did well after winning the toss and electing to bat in the second ODI in Adelaide. Shaun Marsh hit a hundred, the first by an Australian against India in any form on this tour, to propel the hosts to 298 for 9 after they faced some early blows. It was good bowling by the Indian pacers towards the death that the hosts were kept under 300.

Rohit tries to pluck one out of thin air

Rohit Sharma’s brilliant attempt came in the first ball of the 47th over of the Australian innings when Glenn Maxwell slammed one with full power off debutant Mohammed Siraj. The Indian vice-captain was in the firing line who was fielding at the covers. He timed his jump to the perfection even as the ball was travelling past him.

Rohit Sharma even tried to catch it as his right hand managed to stop the ball. He almost pulled off a blinder only for the white cherry to pop out of his hands multiple times. The effort drew praise from the fans and even Mumbai Indians (MI), the Indian Premier League franchise that Rohit captains, came up with a tweet saying he almost did a Yuvraj, tagging the southpaw who has been picked by the MI for the next edition of the tournament.

Yuvraj Singh, who will be playing with Rohit in the IPL in the upcoming season, also responded soon to the tweet and felt that the Hitman almost pulled off a brilliant catch.
